Zorros Basketball is a sports project developed in San Martín de los Andes. The team that seeks the growth of this sport in the locality received a very special visit from Sergio "Oveja" Hernández, who had a talk about the sport with the boys and girls who are part of the institution.
During a day full of learning, the kids were able to listen to Hernández and learn from his experience what the world of basketball is like. This is not the first time that the institution has received a sports star, since in 2017 they were visited by Fabricio Oberto and in March of this year they also had the presence of another former coach of Argentina, Julio Lamas.
Zorros was created by Víctor Serna, a physiotherapist who was part of the medical team of the Argentine national team and is currently based in San Martín where he has become a great promoter of basketball activity. The club now has both female and male basketball teams from formative categories to the first category.
The different teams train at the Escuela del Sol Gymnasium located at Coronel Rohde and Brown. For more information about schedules and how to be part of the training sessions, they have their official Instagram and Facebook available.
Sergio Hernández was born in Bahía Blanca, where he began his career when he coached the local Pre-Infantile and Cadet teams as well as his club Villa Mitre. The coach who visited San Martín de los Andes has coached in three World Championships and is the second most successful, behind American Mike Krzyzewski.
This year he stepped down as the national team's coach after the Tokyo Olympics, but he did so with the highest number of official matches in history (116) and the best winning percentage (72.4%, 84-32), with an Olympic medal -bronze- and a Pan American gold medal.
