Osaka Defeats Riske and Andreescu Defeats Brady in the China Open
Osaka, ranked fourth in the world and winner of the US Open in 2018 and the Australian Open this season, defeated American Alison Riske 6-4, 6-0, winning the last ten games of the match. Meanwhile, recent US Open champion Andreescu defeated fellow American Jennifer Brady 6-1, 6-3.
This is the sixth time Andreescu has reached the quarterfinals of a tournament this year. After winning in Toronto and Flushing Meadows, and already securing a spot in the WTA Finals in Shenzhen, Bianca is happy with her game. "It was a solid match on my part. My goal was to control the match from the beginning and ensure consistency with my serve, because in the last two matches, I lacked that," commented the Canadian afterwards.
Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki won a hard-fought match against Czech Katerina Siniakova, defeating her 7-5, 6-4. She will face Russia's Daria Kasatkina, who comfortably defeated compatriot Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-4, 6-3.
On the other side of the draw, the number one player, Australian Ashleigh Barty, will face Czech Petra Kvitova, while Ukrainian Elina Svitolina will battle against Dutch player Kiki Bertens for a spot in the semifinals.
