Roger Federer: Why wouldn't the Swiss come to Peru to play a Davis Cup match in 2020? [PHOTOS]

After four years, Peru will host the Davis Cup in 2020. And it will do so against Switzerland, the 2014 champion, for the World Group I playoffs. But the expectation is not only about that, but also about the possibility of having Roger Federer in the country.

The Davis Cup matches will be played between March 6 and 7 of next year and although fans hope that Federer will come, it is difficult at this point. Firstly, because he has not competed in this tournament since 2015.

In addition, since the new format of the Davis Cup was created -driven by Gerard Piqué's company Kosmo- he has been against it. "It's not in my plans. There is no need for me to play the Davis Cup. There are no ongoing conversations," Federer said a couple of weeks ago.

Federer's refusal for this new Davis Cup is based on a fact unrelated to tennis, as it is purely business. The new Davis Cup had dates close to the Laver Cup, a tournament created by the Swiss player that has a Europe vs Rest of the World format.

Since it was a competition from a business perspective, Federer would not prioritize playing Piqué's Davis Cup. But of course, hope is the last thing to die.
