Ecuador defined the Davis Cup team that will compete against Venezuela on September 14 and 15 at the Doral Park Country Club in Miami, United States, for Group 1 of the American Zone.
For this series, captain Raúl Viver will have five players: Emilio Gómez (ATP ranking 172), Roberto Quiroz (247), Gonzalo Escobar (366), Diego Hidalgo (434), Cayetano March (817), the latter being called up for the first time to be part of a national Davis Cup team.
The Ecuadorian delegation also includes doctor Tyrone Flores Pavón, physical trainer Santiago De Martino, and stringer Byron León.
Ecuadorians and Venezuelans have faced each other in eleven occasions, with the national team winning six times and losing five. The last time they faced each other was in 2014 at the Guayaquil Tennis Club, with a victory for the Ecuadorians 3-2.
"It should be noted that considering the current risk situation in Venezuela and after consulting with the ITF and obtaining the approval of the Davis Cup Committee and the visiting nation, the Americas I series between Venezuela and Ecuador will be played on neutral ground following the host nation's request," the ITF reported at the time.
Thus, the Doral Park Country Club in Miami, a venue already used by Venezuela in 2017 for its series against the Bahamas and El Salvador, will host the match against Ecuador on September 14 and 15. The match will be played outdoors on a fast court. (D)
