Lima -
After his excellent performance in the Round of 16 and Quarterfinals of the table tennis competitions at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, Ecuadorian Alberto Miño was surprised by the young American Jha Kanak, ranked 5th in the world, in the Quarterfinals of the competition held at the Videna Sports complex.
The Youth Olympic Games medalist, held in Buenos Aires in 2018, needed 46 minutes to defeat the representative from Ecuador by 1-4.
The first set was favorable to the young North American (18 years old), who emerged victorious with a score of 11-6. Then Miño tried to recover in the second set and forced his opponent to reach 13 points, but ultimately lost with a score of 11-13.
In the third set, Miño focused more and, using his cross shots and the mistakes of the American player, managed to win the match with a score of 11-7.
In the fourth set, Kanak once again played his offensive game, which combined with Miño's missed shots allowed him to win with a score of 11-7. In the fifth set, the American maintained his rhythm and Miño couldn't surprise him, ending the match with a score of 11-6.
With Miño's elimination, Ecuador remained without representatives in the women's doubles, men's doubles, mixed doubles, women's singles, and men's singles events. Only the men's team games are left, which will be held at the end of the competition. (D)
