Amazon will broadcast English league matches. The tech giant purchased a package of live broadcast rights for the English Premier League.
With this, Amazon will broadcast two full rounds of matches per season, which corresponds to 20 matches, for three years starting from 2019, the Premier League reported.

According to the company, the matches will be available on Amazon Prime Video at no additional cost to users.
While it's only a handful of matches, Amazon's acquisition is another sign of its push into live sports streaming, a strategy to attract subscribers that threatens British pay-TV companies Sky Plc and BT Group Plc.

Amazon previously purchased rights to ATP tennis tournaments and NFL American football matches. "We are always looking to add more value to Prime," said Jay Marine, Vice President of Amazon Prime Video in Europe.
"The Premier League is the most-watched sports league in the world." The rest of the live broadcast rights in the UK for the Premier League are shared by Sky and BT.
