Andre Berto: The Perfect Opponent for Floyd Mayweather
The choice of Andre Berto as the last opponent for Floyd Mayweather shocked all boxing fans. But 'Money' assured that he was the perfect boxer for his last fight in the ring. And here we explain why.
Andre Berto has been a professional boxer for over 10 years. He made his debut in 2004 against Michael Robinson and maintained that magic in the ring for 27 consecutive fights.
However, Víctor Ortiz was his executioner, in more than one sense. In April 2011, Andre Berto lost his first fight of his professional career and the welterweight championship title of the CBM. Since then, he vowed to have a rematch.
This was scheduled for June of next year, but a surprise doping test revealed that Andre Berto was using nandrolone, a banned anabolic. Thus, he was sanctioned and not allowed to fight.
In this fight, Andre Berto lost the world title. |
Andre Berto was determined to return to the ring, but since that infamous result, he has not been the same. Although in the last fight he won the interim welterweight title of the ABM, he has lost three out of the four agreed fights.
That is why, like many others, Andre Berto was excited to know that he was chosen to face Floyd Mayweather. Actually, 'The Beast' does not have many chances of winning the match, but he does have the chance to return to the top of professional boxing.
If he has a good performance and adjusts to Floyd Mayweather, Andre Berto could be attractive for new fights. With just 32 years old, he still has several years of career ahead.
The last fight of Floyd Mayweather was against Manny Pacquiao. |
THE FACT: Floyd Mayweather and Andre Berto will fight on September 12th in Las Vegas.
