Goffin immediately left the court to be examined by doctors. Five minutes later, the umpire announced Dimitrov as the winner due to his opponent's retirement.
This is not the first unusual injury that the Belgian player has suffered throughout his career. He is currently ranked seventh globally and last year he lost the final of the London Masters to Dimitrov. In 2017, he suffered a serious ankle injury at Roland Garros after tripping on a poorly placed tarp at the back of the court.
In the other semifinal, Federer will look to celebrate his return to the number one spot in the world rankings with a victory. He achieved this feat on Friday with a win against local player Robin Haase. With his place in the semifinals, the Swiss player has secured his position at the top of the rankings, displacing Spanish player Rafael Nadal.
