Scottish Andy Murray had hip surgery in Melbourne (Australia) and hopes to be able to play again this year "during the grass season," as reported by the player himself on Facebook.
"Today I underwent a successful hip surgery at St. Vincent Hospital in Melbourne. I would like to thank Dr. John O'Donnell and all the staff for taking care of me. I hope to return to competition during the grass season. Thank you everyone for all the well wishes and support in recent days. I will come back from this," was the message from Andy Murray on Facebook.
Four days after announcing his withdrawal from the Australian Open, the former number one in tennis has reported his surgery, after having been unsure about continuing with rehabilitation or taking a more drastic measure like surgery.
Andy Murray has not picked up a racket again since he was eliminated in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon by American Sam Querrey.
The Scottish player had already suffered a major back injury in 2013. He underwent surgery after the US Open and missed the end of the season, only to return in January 2014.
