Lucas Viatri's Accident with Fireworks
The news came out hours before the end of 2017. And the incident, as it could be reconstructed, happened during Christmas celebrations. But just now images of Lucas Viatri's face after suffering an accident with fireworks have been revealed. And it must be said that his condition is concerning.
Although there are not many details about what happened, in Uruguay, where Viatri plays for Peñarol, they say the forward was hit by a firework while trying to light it. And although he suffered lacerations on his hands, the most affected area was his face.
And the photos prove it. His left eye, in fact, is the most compromised. And he will start his rehabilitation in Argentina with Dr. Heriberto Marotta, Boca's ophthalmologist. This means that Viatri will miss Peñarol's preseason, starting on January 4th. And for the same reason, he won't be able to participate in the Uruguayan champion's debut in the Copa Libertadores on March 15th against The Strongest from Bolivia.
Viatri's injury caused by fireworks brings to mind other peculiar cases, like the one that happened a year ago with Fernando Monetti, Lanús' goalkeeper, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while playing football-tennis with friends.
Going back in time, and even more curious, Santiago Cañizares was left out of the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup when a bottle of perfume fell on his right foot, causing a cut in his tendon.
