This weekend, Mexico seeks to make history in rugby

The male and female teams will host the Rugby Americas North (RAN) 7s tournament, where they will compete for their place in the World Cup in San Francisco, as well as a ticket to the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, both events next year.

The Campo Marte will be the stage where the Serpents - as the Tri's rugby team is known - will compete in two fields, in addition to having all the services, such as warm-up areas, medical facilities, and an area for spectators.

"We have been training for this for a long time. We have spent many hours practicing daily to qualify for the World Cup," said Vanessa Rodríguez, who is the youngest member of the national team and has been with the Serpents for eight months.

"I want to be very focused on the game, not make any mistakes, always be attentive to support my teammates and communicate to achieve that goal," she added.

The opponents will be from the Caribbean area. The women will face a round-robin tournament against Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, French Guiana, Bermuda, and the Dominican Republic, while the men will compete against the British Virgin Islands, Curacao, and Trinidad in their group.

"The competition is interesting. We have worked very hard to minimize difficulties and give our best," said Daniela Rosales Robles, the team's captain.

They are opponents who, although they have not been in this discipline for a long time, have many physical and tactical strengths, so qualifying will be a challenge that the Serpents are willing to take on.

"(The opponents) have a Caribbean style. They are either strong and big or they have that duality of being skinny and fast," explained Isabela González Berazueta-Burgos, a player on the team. Therefore, their goal is to play with order and have technique and communication to win.

The RAN activity will start on Saturday, November 25th, from 10:00 am. The Serpents (in both categories) need to win the tournament to qualify for the World Cup and the Hong Kong tournament; while the ticket to the Central American Games will be secured for the top four places in the men's tournament and the top three places in the women's field.
