Rafael Nadal's Coach Toni Nadal Announces Retirement
Toni fulfilled his word. Just as he announced last February that he would stop coaching his nephew Rafael Nadal at the end of this season, he made his retirement official with a letter. This was published in the newspaper El País, titled 'Thank you, Rafael'.
Rafa Nadal, eliminated by Belgian David Goffin in the Masters Tournament, won his 16th Grand Slam title in New York on September 11th, placing himself three trophies away from Swiss Roger Federer, the tennis player with the most Grand Slam titles. "Since the beginning of my nephew's tennis career, I tried to develop in him a strong and resolute character to be able to face the difficulties of tennis in particular and life in general," adds the letter.
"Thanks to him (Rafael) I have lived experiences that have surpassed all my dreams as a coach," says Toni Nadal, remembering that, although his journey with 'Rafa' ends, "I will continue to be linked to tennis because my enthusiasm and love for this sport, luckily, remain intact." Toni Nadal will now dedicate himself to directing the academy that bears his nephew's name.
