Swiss Roger Federer, world number 2, won the title at the Basel tournament for the eighth time in his career, this time defeating Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro, 19th in the ATP ranking, whom he defeated 6-7 (5/7), 6-4 and 6-3 in the final on Sunday.

Roger Federer, who won his 95th ATP title in his long career at the age of 36, also achieved several revenge victories over Juan Martin Del Potro, the last player to have defeated him in the quarterfinals of the US Open in September.
The Swiss had already managed to defeat Juan Martin Del Potro two weeks ago, in the semifinals of the Shanghai Masters, which Roger Federer ended up winning.
The Argentine, who won the Stockholm tournament last weekend, was twice champion in Basel, in 2012 and 2013, and on both occasions he defeated Federer in the final, something he could not achieve this time.
In their head-to-head matches, Roger Federer now leads 18 to 6 against the 'Tower of Tandil'.
With his 8 titles in Basel, the living legend of Swiss tennis confirms this tournament as one of his favorites, along with two grass ones, Halle and Wimbledon, where he has been champion 9 and 8 times, respectively.
