Rookie of the Year Award for Malcolm Brogdon

The shooting guard Malcolm Brogdon, from the Milwaukee Bucks, was chosen as the winner of the Rookie of the Year award after becoming the great revelation of the 2016-17 regular season.

Brogdon averaged 10.2 points and 4.2 assists, and was the only rookie to achieve a triple-double throughout the season.

"It is something very special to have won this award as a player selected in the second round who was not considered to be among the favorites. But on the court, I always tried to elevate my level to help the team," said 24-year-old Brogdon, who was selected with the 36th pick by the Bucks in the 2016 draft.

Brogdon was decisive in allowing the Bucks to reach the playoffs, where they were eliminated in the first round by the Toronto Raptors.

He becomes the first player to win the Rookie of the Year award without having been selected in the first round of the draft since the establishment of the modern draft era in 1966.

Brogdon, who played college basketball at the University of Virginia, is also the first player to win both the ACC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards since power forward Elton Brand achieved the feat in the 1999-2000 season.

He is also the first Bucks player to win the award since it was given to the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1969-70.

Brogdon surpassed the Cameroonian center Joel Embiid and the Croatian power forward Dario Saric, both 23 years old and teammates on the Philadelphia 76ers, in the final voting by NBA journalists.
