The historic second place obtained by the Croatian National Team in the 2018 World Cup is reason enough for the Balkan country to celebrate. And this Monday, the Ben Jelacic Square in the capital Zagreb was dressed in white and red to welcome its new national heroes.
The plane that transported the players led by Luka Modric from Russia was accompanied upon arrival in the Croatian capital by airplanes from the national air force.
After getting off the plane, in front of thousands of fans, the players got on an open bus, decorated in the colors of the Balkan country's flag.
For several hours, the vehicle traveled the 20 kilometers from Zagreb airport to the central Ban Jelacic square, where tens of thousands of people were waiting for the players for a big celebration.
Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, who became famous worldwide for her emotional way of encouraging and greeting the players in Moscow, will receive the players in the coming days to decorate them for their sporting achievements and for promoting the country.
