The English forward Harry Kane, chosen as the best player of the round of 16 match that his team won against Colombia in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, highlighted that the victory will make them grow and that they have overcome the trauma of penalty shootouts.
"It has been a match with a lot of emotions, we have controlled the game, the goal in the last moment was a shame, but we didn't give up, we have been effective, with cohesion and unity. We are very proud of the team and the coach, it is a great night for England," he said.
"We are a young team, with no experience, but tonight we have grown a lot. There have been ups and downs, all the teammates have been fantastic," he said.
Kane highlighted that his team was able to overcome a penalty shootout in a World Cup for the first time in its history.
"I think penalty shootouts have to do with mentality, we knew that England hasn't done it very well until now and that it was important to put an end to that streak," he commented.
"This victory will give us a lot of confidence in the future," said the Tottenham player, who considered that England "has relieved itself" by having overcome a penalty shootout.
"We are happy to have comfortably advanced from the group stage, now the round of 16, and on top of that, we have won on penalties for the first time. We have achieved all the objectives, but there is still a long way to go, with more confidence than ever in ourselves," he said.
Kane scored his sixth goal in the World Cup from a penalty during the match, extending his streak of scoring in six consecutive matches.
"I am very proud, as a forward you want to score. I hope I can keep scoring. I am proud of my achievements but I want to do more," he commented.
