Joachim Löw, Germany's coach, has declared himself "a friend and admirer" of VAR, the video assistant referee, and affirmed that "it has worked very well" so far in the 2018 World Cup.
The 'Mannschaft' coach revealed that he watched the match between Spain and Morocco, which ended in a tense 2-2 draw thanks to a goal by Iago Aspas in stoppage time awarded by VAR, and that the Spanish forward's goal "was not offside" and the system "got it right."
"I am a friend and admirer of VAR; I believe it has worked very well throughout the tournament. It has been seen that it is only used in very, very clear situations," expressed Löw in the press conference prior to the match between Germany and South Korea for Matchday 3 of Group F of the World Cup.
"Yesterday I saw that it was used in clear situations. For example, in Spain's last goal the referee flagged offside, and with the help of VAR, the goal stood, which was fair. I believe that the VAR referees are well trained and I am very happy that it is working so well," concluded the German coach.
The German national team is finalizing details for their next match against the Asian team in their group, in search of a victory that will qualify them for the round of 16 of the 2018 World Cup, where they could face Brazil, Switzerland, or Serbia.
