Mexico qualified on Wednesday for the round of 16 of Russia 2018, despite being defeated 3-0 by Sweden, who also advanced in the World Cup. Germany and South Korea were eliminated from the tournament.
The Mexicans could have been eliminated from the World Cup, but Germany could not defeat South Korea and the Germans were the ones who finally said goodbye to Russia 2018.
MINUTE BY MINUTE
Mexico wants to confirm its great start in Russia 2018, after surprising Germany (0-1) and defeating South Korea (2-1). But Sweden, who won their debut against the Asians (1-0), complicated their situation when Germany -nearing elimination- reversed the match to defeat them (2-1) thanks to a goal from Toni Kroos in the 95th minute.
'Charros' only need to add
Mexico preferred not to have their last practice at the Central Stadium -the Swedes did-, as they couldn't use the full extent of the playing field (some covers were placed in both areas). Despite this, Juan Carlos Osorio's team completed their work and are ready to face the 'vikings'.
After defeating Germany -the current champion- with a goal from their emerging star, Hirving 'Chucky' Lozano, and defeating South Korea with goals from Carlos Vela (from a penalty) and 'Chicharito' Hernandez, the Mexican fans ended up chanting the name of Juan Carlos Osorio in Rostov.
They don't back down
The victory of Germany over Sweden in the last minute in Sochi
Sweden must regroup if they want to stay alive in Russia 2018. The yellow team already knows how to approach the game against a team that is on a winning streak, they will seek to harm the Mexicans through the sides, taking advantage of their attacks to counterattack.
