Germany had an agonizing victory over Sweden this Saturday. A goal in the 94th minute by Toni Kroos restored hope for the Germans to continue in the 2018 Russia World Cup. After this result, former English player Gary Lineker readapted his famous phrase about the Germans' victory.
"Football is a game invented by the English, they play 11 against 11, and Germany always wins," said the former English forward when his team lost to Germany in the semifinals of the 1990 Italy World Cup.
The readaptation
Lineker is a legend in England and today he is an acid sports commentator. Germany's agonizing victory against Sweden prompted him to readjust that popular phrase.
"Football is a simple game, 22 men chase the ball for 82 minutes. The Germans get a player sent off, then 21 men chase the ball for 13 minutes, and in the end, somehow the Germans always end up winning," he wrote in a tweet.
