Three matches remain to complete the second round of the group stage of Russia 2018. Starting from the next matchday, all matches of the same group will be played simultaneously and the sixteen teams that will play in the round of 16 of the World Cup will finally be known.
However, in several groups, it is possible that two or more teams will have the same number of points and goal difference, creating an atypical scenario. And if that happens, how would the tie be resolved? That is the question that many fans are asking themselves.
According to the regulations of Russia 2018, in article 32 called Group Stage, clause 5, it is determined that the classification to the next round will be as follows:
a) Most points obtained.
b) Goal difference.
c) Most goals scored.
If the tie persists between two or more teams, the final position of a team will be determined as follows:
d) Most points obtained by the teams in question.
e) Goal difference of the teams in question.
f) Most goals scored by the teams in question.
If the parity continues, the "Fair Play" factor will be taken into account and if the tie persists, a draw will be conducted.
g) Most points obtained by fair play.
- Yellow card received: 1 point deducted.
- Expulsion for two yellow cards: 3 points deducted.
- Direct red card: 4 points deducted.
- Yellow card and direct red card: 5 points deducted.
h) Draw conducted by the FIFA organizing committee to determine the positions of the teams.
