Javier 'Chicharito' Hernández was one of the standout players for Mexico in Saturday's 2-1 victory over South Korea, a win that practically secured the Mexicans' place in the round of 16 of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
However, 'Chicharito' Hernández is not getting carried away by Mexico's good moment and assured that they remain focused on their goal in Russia 2018. "Starting tomorrow, we turn the page and think about Sweden, defeat them and win the group, which is the most important thing," he said in a press conference at Rostov Arena.
The Mexican forward also stated that "things are going very well" since in the first two matches at Russia 2018, they have beaten the world champion Germany and the Asian team, "two very tough opponents".
For 'Chicharito' Hernández, Mexico's task is to "climb the ladder" of the tournament with "all humility and respect". However, he assured that compliments are a "trap" and an "external noise" that he and his teammates do not want to "destabilize" them. He also recalled that they arrived at Russia 2018 surrounded by "a lot of criticism and negativity".
Regarding the fact that he scored his 50th goal with the Mexican national team and became the third Mexican to score in three consecutive World Cups, 'Chicharito' Hernández expressed his happiness. "There are no words. Reality surpasses dreams. We have to imagine things. We have to keep going like this. I want to achieve important things for my country. That's what excites me," he said.
