The Colombian national team debuted this Tuesday with a 1-2 defeat against Japan in Group G of the World Cup, in a match where they played almost 90 minutes with one man less due to the expulsion of Carlos Sánchez.

Shinji Kagawa opened the scoring from the penalty spot at six minutes after midfielder Sánchez used his arm to block a rival's shot that was going straight to the goal, resulting in the South American player receiving a straight red card.

Colombia equalized with a free-kick goal from Juan Fernando Quintero at 38 minutes, but near the end, Yuya Osako scored the 2-1 with a header for the Asian team from a corner kick. (D)

Coach José Pékerman's team occupies the 16th position in FIFA's ranking, while the Japanese team is in the 61st place. Additionally, the South Americans have the support of the 4-1 victory against the "Blue Samurai" in the 2014 World Cup. (D)
