The 'Charrua Spirit' saved the day

Uruguay defeated Egypt 1-0 on Friday in the second match of Group A of the 2018 World Cup at the Ekaterinburg Arena. A goal by José Giménez in the last minutes gave the Celeste the victory against the Pharaohs who knew how to complicate it.

Despite the repeated attempts of those directed by Óscar Tabárez throughout the whole game, the arrivals could not materialize thanks to the superb performance of goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy. Forced by the absence of their star, Mohamed Salah, Héctor Cúper used a tactical order.

Thanks to their defensive block and their counterattacks with Trézéguet and Marwan Mohsen, the 'Boys of the Nile' managed to stop and even knock on the doors of the rival's goal on several occasions. Towards the end, the tension broke.

In the 88th minute, a corner kick in favor of the South American team that Carlos Sánchez turned into a precise cross, was served for Giménez to connect a corner header that gave the Uruguayan people joy in their debut in the World Cup, surpassing the mark.

The first day of Group A is defined with this result and the overwhelming victory of Russia yesterday, 5-0 against Saudi Arabia. On June 19, the 'Tricolor Bears' will collide with Egypt, while the 'Pistolero' Luis Suárez's team will do the same against the Saudis on Wednesday the 20th.
