Through a statement, Mexico confirmed that Diego Reyes will miss the 2018 World Cup due to an injury. The defender did not recover in time and is not in good condition for the competition.
Juan Carlos Osorio, coach of the 'Tricolor', informed last Monday that the decision regarding the Porto central defender would be known on Tuesday after imaging studies were performed on the 25-year-old player.
Minutes after confirming the sad news, Diego Reyes made a social media post to comment about his absence in the World Cup with Mexico.
"Thank God and the support of the medical staff who were with me at all times. My injury has been disappearing, however, today along with the coaching staff, I have decided to make a decision," he said.
"I am convinced that they will make history because of their talent and because this united and committed group is meant for great things. I believe in you, let's go!" Diego Reyes added, while also expressing his support for Mexico.
