The Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed his favorites to win the trophy at Russia 2018. In an interview with the China Media Corporation, Putin also spoke about the Russian National Team and its role in the upcoming World Cup.
Regarding the teams he considers candidates to win the World Cup, Putin mentioned the Brazilian and Argentinean national teams; he also added Germany and Spain for their style of play.
"The German national team has also shown brilliant results in the last two World Cups. Spain has a quality game and beautiful football," he said.
About the performance of his country's national team in this tournament, he emphasized the poor results the team has been having in its recent matches; however, he hopes that they "play with dignity" with "modern, interesting and beautiful football," he mentioned to that media outlet.
Finally, the occupant of the Grand Kremlin Palace also expressed what Russia's main objective is when the World Cup begins.
"We must celebrate the championship properly, so that it becomes a party for the millions of football fans around the world."
