Last Saturday, the Mexican national team defeated Scotland 1-0 in a match that served as a farewell to their fans before competing in Russia 2018. However, the joy of the victory turned into sadness when it was known that a fan who had attended the Azteca Stadium lost his life.

According to Mexican media, Germán López had collapsed due to a hypoglycemic attack (a condition that occurs when blood sugar levels are too low) and despite being transported to a nearby hospital, his death was inevitable.

The Mexican Football Federation itself confirmed this sad news through its social media.

"The Mexican Football Federation regrets the death of the fan Germán López who, during the Mexico vs. Scotland match, held tonight (Saturday) at the Azteca Stadium suffered a hypoglycemic attack. During the incident, attention and transfer protocols were activated, but unfortunately, the fan died at the GA González hospital," the statement reads.
