Justo Villar announces his retirement from the Paraguayan national team

Justo Villar, an experienced 40-year-old goalkeeper, who reached the pinnacle with the Paraguayan national team in the 2010 World Cup and the 2011 Copa America, announced his retirement from the national team after 19 years.

Justo Villar currently plays for the National club in the top category of Paraguayan football. He will play his last match with the Paraguayan national team on June 12 in a friendly against Japan in Austria.

The goalkeeper will only spend a few minutes on the field wearing the captain's armband, as he is recovering from an injury. "I am grateful to be able to end my participation in this way," he said.

"I will never leave the Paraguayan national team. This retirement for me does not count, instead it is a farewell to the field, because one always has a relationship with the national team and that will continue," he added.

Justo Villar was a key player for the Paraguayan national team during the historic campaign of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where the team led by Argentine Gerardo Martino reached the quarterfinals for the first time.

The following year, he was named the best goalkeeper of the 2011 Copa America, in which the Paraguayan national team reached the final but lost to Uruguay. He played for Newell's Old Boys and Estudiantes de la Plata, Real Valladolid, and Colo Colo.
