He missed out

The inclusion of Mario Götze in the call-up of the German national team that will compete in the upcoming 2018 World Cup in Russia was one of the big questions for the 'Teutonic' team. Far from his best form, being the author of the winning goal in the last World Cup final was not enough merit to be called up by Joachim Löw.

However, Götze's words have been more of resignation than anger. The German midfielder from Borussia Dortmund shared a message on his social media and showed his unconditional support to the team that will travel to Russian lands to compete in the World Cup representing Germany.

"Of course I'm sad that I'm not attending the World Cup. I will do everything I can to get back to the squad of our national team. I wish the boys, the coaches and the team behind the team a good time in Russia and I will keep my fingers crossed for everyone to be world champions," said Götze in his Twitter account.

The coach's response. Löw, on the other hand, felt responsible for the pressure that Götze has been subjected to since he was the hero of the title in the past World Cup. "Prove that you're better than (Lionel) Messi," were the words of the German coach back then.

"A player who scores the decisive goal in a final at such a young age can be a burden afterwards. This season was not the one we all wished for Götze," Low insisted about the player who was once a nemesis and who will now watch Germany play the World Cup from a television at his home.
