The Peruvian national team will prepare a plane and seek to have their players sleep, even with medication, during the trip to New Zealand to play on November 10 the first leg of the World Cup qualifying playoff in Russia, informed the doctor of the national team, Julio Segura.
The players need the greatest comforts to mitigate the effect of the long journey and the time difference, stated in an interview with the radio station "Radio Nacional".
"We will depart at night and the idea is for them to sleep during the trip so they can arrive rested and have breakfast upon arrival. Some players will receive permitted medications so they can sleep soundly," he explained.
He said that the plane they will travel in will be conditioned so that the players can rest comfortably.
"They will wear special socks to prevent problems with blood circulation in the veins of their legs. We have to take care of the muscles and prevent leg swelling," he added.
He added that the players will receive a diet "with the appropriate calories for easy digestion."
-Charter flight-
The Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) has hired a charter plane that will reduce the travel time from Lima to Wellington from 20 to 14 hours.
The provisions taken by the technical commission led by Argentine Ricardo Gareca were shared by former Uruguayan goalkeeper Fabián Carini, who stated on "RPP" that logistics is very important in this type of match.
"The fundamental thing, although it seems like a minor detail, is logistics because these types of trips are complicated," said Carini, who participated with Uruguay in the playoffs of 2001 and 2005 against Australia.
The first leg match in New Zealand will be played on Saturday, November 11 at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington at 16:15 local time (3:15 GMT), which in Peru will be 22:15 on Friday, November 10.
The return match will be played on Wednesday, November 15 at the Estadio Nacional in Lima at 21:15 local time (2:15 GMT on Thursday, November 16), which in New Zealand will be 15:15 on the same Thursday.
Although the period established by FIFA to play both matches was from November 6 to 14, the maximum body of international football agreed to extend the deadline by one more day after analyzing the distance, flight duration, and the eighteen time zones that separate both countries.
