The Technical Director of Porto criticizes the training plan of the Mexican National Team
The Technical Director of Porto, Sergio Conceição, described as ridiculous the training plan given to the Mexican players by his counterpart, Colombian strategist Juan Carlos Osorio, in order for them to arrive in optimal conditions for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
This specifically applies to defender Diego Reyes, who has had little activity with the "Dragons", although the procedure is also valid for Miguel Layún, Héctor Herrera, and Jesús Manuel "Tecatito" Corona.
"That is a total absurdity! What specific work can you do in one week of preparation? Here (Porto) we have physiologists, nutritionists, and fitness trainers who create that plan for each player," emphasized the Portuguese coach.
In a press conference, the coach of the blue and whites criticized Osorio in such a way that he didn't care if his statements had repercussions in Mexico. He also urged the "Tri" coach to thank Porto for the good training that the Mexicans receive.
"The best thing he could do is say 'thank you' to Porto for the players. The Mexican press can gladly use my words, I have no problem with that," he said.
He affirmed that the Portuguese team works well and that the Mexican players demonstrate a good level every time they play, even recalling when the four coincided against AS Monaco in the Champions League.
"I don't know why he said that (Osorio). We cannot forget that in the match where the four Mexican players played, (Jesús Manuel) Corona was the best on the field, (Miguel) Layún provided an assist, and (Héctor) Herrera scored a goal," Conceição said.
