Juan Pablo Varillas, bronze medalist at the 2019 Lima Pan American Games, quickly said goodbye to Roland Garros. The Peruvian tennis player lost in his qualifying first round match at the French Grand Slam.

Tough defeat

The 24-year-old national athlete, champion in October 2019 at the ATP Challengers in Campinas and Santo Domingo, lost in 1 hour and 13 minutes to Canadian Brayden Schnur by two sets to zero (6-1 and 6-4).

Second set recovery

After a first set in which Brayden Schnur, ranked 191 in the ATP rankings, devastated in 29 minutes, Juan Pablo Varillas recovered in the second set to tie it 4-4. However, the Canadian broke his serve in the ninth game and later defended his serve to win the match.
