Dominating the sea. Peruvian sailor Stefano Peschiera won the gold medal in his event at the World Cup Series in Miami, a competition where the top exponents of this sport tamed the waves off the coast of the United States.

Peschiera competed in the Medal Race, a race where the podium of the competition is decided, and finished first, securing his victory. A total of eight races were held, in which Stefano was able to triumph in two of them and came second in another. With that performance, the national athlete obtained the gold medal, surpassing Argentine Francisco Guaragna (silver) and Enrique Arathoon (bronze).

The World Cup Series consists of three tournaments that grant access to the grand final. The next stage will take place in the Italian city of Genoa in April. The winners will qualify for the Final Series, which will be held in Enoshima, Japan in June, just before the Olympic Games.

Stefano Peschiera, who was an Olympic athlete for Peru in Rio 2016 and the flag bearer for the national delegation at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, was the first national qualifier for Tokyo 2020. He achieved this after competing against 165 other competitors in the Aarhus World Championships in Denmark, where he competed from August 3, 2018.
