Paola Mautino reported that the IPD has withdrawn financial support from 146 national athletes [PHOTOS].

"I have been completely withdrawn from the economic support that allowed me to dedicate myself to long jump full time. That is the confidence that the current directors of the IPD have in their athletes. The Pan American Games ended, the support ended. Sport in Peru is over, when it should be the opposite," reads the complaint that the outstanding athlete Paola Mautino has published on her social networks.

It is assumed that, after the Pan American Games, support for sports should be greater on the part of the IPD. But it seems that is not the case, as Mautino points out, 147 athletes will no longer have the subsidies provided by the State.

"This year, and I have said it a thousand times (the directors of the IPD also know it), was very difficult because I had an injury that did not allow me to do any type of training for two months. I managed to recover, competed in Europe and broke the record of a meeting that had been in force for several years," begins the complaint.

And she adds: "I was also able to participate in the Lima 2019, I was the third best South American. I am still the best in the country in my discipline throughout history and I still devote practically 100% of my time to this. In addition, currently I am ranked 111 out of 1800 athletes in my discipline worldwide. I have put aside my career, friends, even my family for this, and the IPD decides that it is not enough."

The athlete also indicated that support is being withdrawn from athletes who have broken national records and who have even won international medals in their respective disciplines. The worst part is that many were looking for their qualification for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. "They are cutting our wings," Mautino says.

And she continues: "What message is being given to the athletes who come after us? The great majority of us are adults, and this is not a hobby as many think. For us, in addition to our passion, it is our job. And now it's as if they had fired us."

"I will keep striving, I will keep fighting for my goals. But unfortunately this is not the case for everyone, and many colleagues are already thinking about retirement when they are still in a very good moment. There has been null analysis, no criteria. Sport is not only measured by medals.

"I hope that the board of the IPD becomes aware and analyzes their decision before we lose more athletes and the investment made for the Pan American Games has been in vain," she concluded.
