Peñarol
This Thursday, Peñarol presented the signing of the first professional contract of Santiago Díaz, a young forward who was the top scorer of the last Copa Libertadores U20 and has been training with the first team waiting for an opportunity to debut.
After signing the contract, he talked about the current situation of the first team, one day after the 3-2 victory against City Torque, and valued that "the game turned around and made the fans happy because we won like Peñarol". He added, "We always want a little more, but winning is better."
"I'm staying with a group that is solid even in a big adversity because it was unthinkable two minutes before the end of the first half that we made the 2-2. We have a very solid group, and that always gives hope," he expressed.
"We had 60 very good minutes against Defensor, a very bad match with Deportivo Maldonado, which was the worst we've had, and I emphasize the coach's guts to make the changes," he remarked referring to the four changes he made against City Torque.
He also praised Darío Rodríguez for making "the right changes to keep going forward and sustain the result" in Wednesday's victory. "As I tell Darío: work, work, and more work. As long as we are winning, it will always be easier," he said.
The statements of Amoza, from Nacional: "They are preparing for the derby"Asked about the comments made by Gustavo Amoza, a board member of Nacional who gave his opinion on the refereeing and claimed that "all doubts favor Peñarol," in addition to mocking the WhatsApp statuses of Ruglio, the Peñarol president said that "there is nothing that proves that Peñarol has been favored."
"The balls hit the hands and were called," he said about the penalty awarded for the 3-2 goal. "Maxi Olivera got to the ball first. He went for the ball," he added referring to a play in which a red card was requested for the Peñarol defender.
"When we put up a WhatsApp status, he was bothered by the WhatsApp statuses. When we talked about the referees, he was bothered by us talking about the referees. Now, the WhatsApp statuses are about my granddaughter, and apparently that bothers him. I don't know, they are too concerned," he said.
"We need to stay calm. I believe that calmness in this sense is good for everyone: for the refereeing, for football, and so on. There hasn't been anything for them to complain about. There haven't been any doubtful things as they claim. Why wouldn't they call a penalty if it hits the hand head-on?" Ruglio added.
"I think they are getting ready for the derby and want to tilt the perception that people may have about the refereeing. It's older than football, and the referees themselves know it. We need to keep calm and congratulate the work the referees did yesterday. We were losing 2-0, and nobody was talking about them. They called what they had to call," he expressed his opinion.
