Comunicaciones returns to its international presentations in Concacaf, after last year's failure against Diriangén
GUATEMALA - One year after being eliminated by Diriangén from Nicaragua in the Round of 16 of the Concacaf League 2022, Comunicaciones is back on the international stage with the first edition of the Concacaf Central American Cup and this Wednesday they will face Real España from Honduras at Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores.
That is why Uruguayan coach Willy Olivera sees this new international appearance as a rematch, since they couldn't defend the title won in the Concacaf League 2021 against Motagua from Honduras last year.
"Comunicaciones not only set the bar high in the Champions League, but also in the Concacaf League. We had a setback by not winning the championship last time, but I think the team's performance was very good. Now we have our revenge again. This championship has a different taste because we have already won it and we know what it takes to win it. We hope to do it again because we have that commitment to the institution we are defending," said Willy Olivera in the press conference prior to the match against Real España.
The Uruguayan coach made it clear that they must take advantage of the home condition, as they will only play two games at home and two away games. "Comunicaciones has to bet on going out to seek the match from the beginning, being aggressive and having good ball control, being accurate when creating opportunities. Then, we hope that the field can be a little better than it was last weekend."
The match on Wednesday at 6:00 PM will be the second game of the season, as they drew 1-1 against Xinabajul-Huehue last Saturday at the start of the Apertura 2023 Tournament.
"We have a busy August with all the matches of the Central American Cup, plus the matches of the National League, and that will give us the rhythm we all want. We are happy with the squad we assembled and the team's performance, even though we didn't get the victory the other day. But I think the team's performance was very good at times and we will bet on continuing to be a compact, tenacious, and protagonist team despite facing a great rival, but we have to impose ourselves in our home."
In addition, the white coach referred to the interest in Gerardo Gordillo after Nicolás Samayoa's departure abroad. "With Nicolás Samayoa's departure, there was interest in Gerardo Gordillo, nothing is confirmed yet. The club is interested in him, but he has to settle some personal matters. He is a player who was here, he is from the club, and of course, if he comes, he will be welcome."
