This Friday, March 3rd, Jorge Fosatti was officially presented as the new coach of Universitario de Deportes. The Uruguayan strategist - with a past in Peñarol, Cerro Porteño, Liga de Quito and River Plate (Uruguay) - will be the one to take charge of the 'merengue' team after Carlos Compagnucci's departure. Although the coach will start his duties from Sunday, after the match against Melgar, he wasted no time in revealing the goals he has with the cream team. He also spoke about the references he has about Piero Quispe and whether he will keep José Carvallo as the team's captain.
"I like big challenges, but at this point in my life, I don't get involved in crazy adventures. I say it from the heart, there have been Uruguayan coaches here, so I have the best references from the gentlemen I have by my side (Jean Ferrari and Manuel Barreto)," were the first words of the Uruguayan coach at the press conference.
Jorge Fosatti also spoke about the playing system he will use in the 'merengue' club. "Yes, it is true that there is a system that I like more than others, but I am not close to it. I consider that the system is important, we cannot prioritize it, especially when we are not in preseason," he added.
When asked about the reference he has about Piero Quispe, the coach believes that it is not good for a team to talk about just one player. However, he revealed that, in Friday's training, he felt a good atmosphere in the team: "I can talk about all the players, but I can't tell you which player is more important than another. There is a very good atmosphere and that is fundamental,".
It should be noted that the former River Plate coach stated that he will take the time to analyze all the players. However, he emphasized that Universitario has a "very rich squad" and that it is "well-balanced, between experience and youth."
Will José Carvallo continue to be the captain of 'U'?
Jorge Fosatti also referred to the role that the team captain must assume on the field. He also said that he prefers to have a "field player" in this position and not a goalkeeper, as is the case with José Carvallo.
"We'll see who will be the captain after training. Let me tell you something, I was a goalkeeper and I was given the responsibility to be the captain. From my point of view, it is not ideal. I prefer a field player, and if he plays in midfield, even better," emphasized the Uruguayan coach.
