The pre-match heats up! Uruguay plays for their life this Friday, December 2nd against Ghana for the third match of Group H in the 2022 World Cup Qatar. After drawing with South Korea and losing to Portugal, the South American team will have to fight for qualification against a team with whom they have a peculiar history.

In the quarterfinals of South Africa 2010, Luis Suarez starred in one of the most unusual plays in recent World Cups, as he stopped a shot from the African team with his hands on the goal line in the last minute of extra time. That action earned him a red card and a penalty was awarded to the Ghanaian team.

Asamoah Gyan had the chance to qualify his team and make history as the first African country to reach the World Cup semifinals, but he hit the crossbar and the match went to penalties. In the penalty shootout, the Uruguayan team showed their quality and advanced to the next round.

"I don't have to apologize. I touched the ball with my hand, I was sent off, but I'm not the player who missed the penalty. I didn't miss the penalty. I'm not responsible for that," he commented to the media.
