Gold medal for Peruvian delegation in South American Games Asunción 2022

The Peruvian delegation continues to compete in the South American Games Asunción 2022, and this Monday there were positive news for the medal tally. Asier Cilloniz had an outstanding performance in the men's Olympic trap shooting modality and won the gold medal (in addition, he qualified for next year's Pan American Games); while Alessandro de Souza Ferreira won the silver medal.

The event took place at the Shooting Range in Paraguay and our representatives showed their talent from the preliminary rounds: De Souza scored 105 points and led the qualification; while Cilloniz came in third place with 101 points. Uruguayan Franco González was second in that stage (102).

In this way, both members of Peru reached the semifinal round, shared the same series, and advanced, but this time Asier Cilloniz finished first with a score of 23; and Alessandro de Souza finished second with 19. In the other bracket, Franco González (21) and Chilean Claudio Vergara (18) qualified.

In the final competition for the medals, the Peruvian dominance was evident, since the gold went to Cilloniz, who finished the event with 28 points; while De Souza reached the silver medal with 22 points. The podium was completed by Uruguayan González (15).

Bronze in women's shooting

On the other hand, the women's shooting event also brought joy to Peru: Valentina Porcella finished in third place in the trap modality, scoring 14 points, and won the bronze medal. The podium was led by Chilean Pamela Salman, and Brazilian Priscila Macedo finished in second place.
