Facundo Torres scores penalty goal as Orlando City defeats Columbus Crew

Facundo Torres scored a penalty goal on Sunday to lead Orlando City to a victory over Columbus Crew as the home team, in the final match of the Major League Soccer (MLS) regular season.

Torres, 22, thus ended his first season in American soccer with 13 goals and 12 assists.

This sets a record for the Orlando City franchise.

The former Peñarol player surpassed Portuguese Nani's mark of 23 contributions (goals + assists), the former Manchester United player who left Orlando City and opened up a spot for El Cuervo's arrival.

At the end of the match, Torres was chosen as the best player of the game.

The match was crucial because the winner would qualify for the playoffs. Columbus Crew had 46 points and Orlando City had 45. Torres' team managed to move up the standings and secure the seventh spot for the playoff matchups.
