Diego Godín cleared a ball on the goal line and celebrated his action as a goal.

Diego Godín played his first match as a starter for Vélez Sarsfield in the (1-2) defeat against Colón de Santa Fe in the Argentine Professional League. Despite the result, the Uruguayan defender made a great save in the Brigadier López Stadium.

The match was 1-0 in favor of 'Fortín' at 17 minutes and 'Sabalero' was approaching with all their weapons to get the equalizer. Then, Eric Meza projected himself down the right flank and, before reaching the goal line, sent the ball to Santiago Pierotti.

The Argentine midfielder took a strong shot, however, Diego Godín stood on the goal line defended by Lucas Hoyos and cleared the ball. Then, the 36-year-old center-back celebrated as if he had scored a goal.

However, the defender could not prevent the 'Rojinegro' from equalizing. In addition, the player played only 45 minutes and was replaced by Matías de los Santos. In the second half, the winning goal would come from Ramón Ábila.

The Uruguayan center-back made his debut with 'Fortín' in the second leg match of the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals. The player came on in the final minutes and, after his first match wearing the Vélez jersey, shared his emotions. "It wasn't easy to come in, River was attacking with everything, almost desperate. In these matches, anything can happen with any ball, but the guys played an extraordinary match," he said in a press conference.
