Jefferson Farfán and Carlos Zambrano have been left out of the list of overseas players called up for the next double round of the South American Eliminatories for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, so Ricardo Gareca, coach of the Peruvian national team, will maintain the same base as the previous match against Paraguay and Brazil.
Despite it being a decisive match against Venezuela on March 23rd in Maturín and on the 28th against Uruguay in Lima, the national team coach made this decision for various reasons.
Although he always expressed as an essential condition that the players called up have continuity in their clubs, the "Tigre" was interested in calling up the "Foquita", who is the recent signing of Lokomotiv in Russia. However, an injury in the middle of his right foot prevented him from playing for a week and, later, a new food intoxication contributed to him being definitively ruled out for this pre-World Cup round.
This recent health problem prevented Farfán from training the entire week in Lokomotiv.
As for Carlos Zambrano, from Rubin Kazan in Russia, the situation is that Gareca wants to support the core of his current squad and although he has resolved his differences with the defender after his misconduct in the match against Venezuela, where we drew at home and he accumulated his second yellow card, which prevented him from playing against Uruguay in Montevideo. Gareca understands that it is not yet the right time to count on the "León".
