Sporting Cristal: Last Opponent in the Libertadores Revealed
After the match between Sporting Cristal and Sport Rosario, Chilean goalkeeper Mauricio Viana commented that he experienced an uncomfortable moment when a ball boy was insulting him for being from another country.
"I am also angry because of many extraneous circumstances that occurred off the field. It cannot be that a ball boy is shouting insults at me and disrespecting me because of my country. That seems unacceptable to me," said 27-year-old goalkeeper Mauricio Viana to "Gol Peru".
The goalkeeper continued with his statements and also indicated that Sport Rosario did their part with a long pass and they were able to "hold on" to the result.
Viana Earns Applause for His Skillful Play
"I feel upset and frustrated for having lost our undefeated record. This field is very complicated and we couldn't achieve our style of play. On the other hand, they were able to execute their own plan: sending a long pass and holding onto the ball," declared Mauricio Viana.
Sporting Cristal will debut in the Copa Libertadores on Thursday, March 9, at their home stadium against Santos from Brazil. The celestial team aims to advance through the group stage as their primary objective in the continental tournament.
