Juan Pablo Rodriguez rejects Mexico's possible withdrawal from the Copa Libertadores.

After the Mexican Soccer Federation (FMF) left open the possibility of resigning from the Copa Libertadores, unrest has arisen in experienced players like Juan Pablo Rodríguez. The experienced midfielder from Morelia, who has already played on several occasions in the continental tournament, warned that it would be a setback if Mexican soccer stopped participating in the tournament.

"It would be a total setback, I believe that facing South American teams has made Mexican soccer and the national team grow. For me, it would be a step backwards, it is a very important continental tournament, a tournament in which the best players always leave for Europe, it is still a showcase. Let's hope that it is well analyzed and that soon the Copa Libertadores can be won by a Mexican team to give it prominence.

"The important thing is to strengthen ourselves in order to win a Libertadores, not to stop participating in it, but it is difficult when the federation is run by so many people, when the executives influence so many things. I don't know what will happen, but from my experience and because I have played it, I believe it is essential to continue in a tournament like this."

The possibility of no longer participating in the Copa Libertadores arose after the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) announced changes in the calendar and competition format of the continental tournament, which will now be played from February to November.

Enrique Bonilla, president of the Liga MX, warned that if these modifications do not favor the development of the local tournament, Mexico would stop attending the most prestigious club tournament in the continent.
