Taekwondoist William de Jesús Arroyo wins gold at the World Poomsae Championship

Mexican taekwondoist William de Jesús Arroyo won the gold medal on the first day of the World Poomsae Championship held in Lima, Peru. The 13-year-old athlete achieved the highest position on the podium in the individual traditional category (cadet 12-14 years old).

"I am very happy to have achieved the result I had set for myself. The key to success is that I enjoyed the competition very much and gave my best in the field. I felt very joyful and received congratulations from all my teammates. I felt very comfortable participating in this World Championship," Arroyo said.

In the final, Arroyo defeated an Iranian taekwondoist with a score of 8.01 to 7.93.

Arroyo will compete again on Sunday in the mixed pairs category (12-14 years old) alongside Cecilia Lee, who reached the quarterfinals in the individual category on Thursday.

On the other hand, the women's team composed of Ana Ibáñez, Fabiola Olivares, and Lucy Morales won the bronze medal in the senior category (under 30 years old).
