Universitario de Deportes managed to salvage the match against Sporting Cristal and drew 2-2 at the Estadio Nacional for their 92nd anniversary. After an intense match, José Luis Carranza responded to the 'Cerveceros' fans.
Don't count Universitario out. After the 2-0, many Sporting Cristal fans thought it was all over, but the 'U' showed their strength and ended up drawing 2-2. José Luis Carranza, assistant coach of Universitario de Deportes, sent a message to the 'rimenses': "Small teams are like that. Small teams may think that. The 'U' is a big team and the fans are there through thick and thin. They're always thinking that you play for 90 minutes and in 5 minutes, the 'U' can change a match."
A good clásico at the Nacional. Sporting Cristal fans celebrated the 2-0 and there were even videos on social media where they sang to the Universitario fans leaving the Estadio Nacional after Santiago Silva's goal and the 2-0 for the 'Cerveceros'.
It's not the first time. 'Puma' Carranza has had several incidents with players or fans of rival clubs. At one point, the Universitario de Deportes idol had a discussion with George Forsyth of Alianza Lima and the Alianzista goalkeeper stated that he took those statements as they were.
Universitario in the Clausura. With 51 points, the 'U' still dreams of winning the Clausura. To do that, they will have to defeat UTC at the Heroes de San Ramon in the last matchday and hope that Sporting Cristal (52) draws or loses to Defensor La Bocana at the Alberto Gallardo.
Sudamericana is coming. Universitario de Deportes will play against Emelec on Tuesday, August 9 at 9:30 pm at the Estadio Nacional. The match will be televised by Fox Sports and RPP Noticias will provide the commentary of the match on their radio platform (89.7 FM).
