Peruvian Athlete Luz Mery Rojas Wins Gold Medal in 10,000 Meters at Pan American Games
After defeating the favorite in the competition, Mexican Laura Galván, Luz Mery Rojas won the gold medal in the 10,000 meters at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. Our compatriot closes a glorious day for national sports as she obtained the seventh gold medal for Peru, four in the same day.

Earlier, the Peruvian team won three more gold medals starting with the great performance of Piccolo Clemente, who achieved the first gold medal of the day for our country in men's longboard at the 2023 Pan American Games.
Rojas set a record of 33 minutes, 12 seconds, and 99 hundredths, taking a big lead over all her competitors. This way, Peru is positioned in the seventh place in the official medal table of the Pan American Games and we still have possibilities to surpass Cuba and Colombia, nations that have 10 and 13 medals respectively.

After that, in women's longboard, Mafer Reyes won the gold by defeating Brazilian Chloe Calmon, obtaining what was the fifth gold medal for Peru at that moment. Later, Lucca Messina obtained the same medal by defeating Venezuelan Francisco Bellorin in shortboard, and Luz Mery Rojas ended the day with the 10,000 meters.
With these medals, Peru is becoming stronger in the Pan American Games, and Peruvian athletes Vania Torres (SUP Surf) and Miguel Tudela (shortboard) also won bronze medals.
