Can Sporting Cristal Win the Clausura Tournament?
Sporting Cristal has a chance to win the Clausura Tournament, but they don't depend on themselves as they have the obligation to win against Alianza Atlético and hope for a defeat of Universitario against Sport Huancayo at the Monumental Stadium. The president of the club, Joel Raffo, referred to this last match and made a request to the 'Rojo Matador'.

"I hope Huancayo plays their best game against Universitario," said Raffo to RPP, expressing his desire for the team led by Jorge Fossati to lose at home against the 'Rojo Matador'. On paper, this is something complicated, but mathematically it is still possible for the celeste team to win the Clausura, and even a draw would be enough for the 'bajopontinos' since winning would secure them second place in the overall standings and force a semifinal.
It is worth noting that, after losing 1-0 to Cienciano in Cusco, Sporting Cristal drastically diminished their chances of winning the Clausura title and subsequently facing Alianza Lima in the grand final of the Liga 1 2023. Therefore, the team led by Tiago Nunes now needs Universitario as well as Melgar to lose their matches, and for La Victoria to not win their game against Deportivo Garcilaso.
Which Players' Contracts with Sporting Cristal Will End in 2023?
Sporting Cristal also needs to win the championship this season in order to continue building the best way for the next year, as, although they can renew, these are the players from the celeste team whose contracts will end in 2023:
- Renato Solís
- Gianfranco Chávez
- Leonardo Díaz
- Gilmar Paredes
- Martín Távara
- Aldair Vásquez
- Leandro Sosa
- Diego Soto
- Brenner Marlos
- Irven Ávila
- Percy Liza
Más de diez jugadores terminan contrato en Sporting Cristal este 2023.
Will Tiago Nunes Continue in Sporting Cristal?
"The club's philosophy is long-term. Since we went to convince him of the project, we had that intention. We maintain it, therefore we consider the possibility that the project continues. That was the goal, the two-year project. As you know, there are contractual issues to consider. Terminations, renewals, conditions. There are also personal and adaptation issues," said Joel Raffo on RPP.
