This Saturday, October 21st, Angelo Caro won the first silver medal for the Peruvian delegation at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. The member of the Athlete Support Program (PAD) of IPD achieved this in the male street skateboarding modality. It is important because it is the debut of skateboarding in this great sporting event and also because it meant the first silver medal for Team Peru (the previous three were bronze).

The Peruvian demonstrated his skills in the skatepark and at the end obtained a score of 256.80, which served him to occupy the second place in the discipline, just behind the Brazilian Lucas Rabelo, who obtained 264.45. The podium was completed by the Colombian Jhancarlos González with a score of 247.82.

A few hours earlier, our compatriots Hugo del Castillo, David Bardalez and Cristian Morales won the first bronze medals for the national delegation. Hugo finished in third place (the semifinal was defined by a difference of 0.10 in the final score) in male poomsae and obtained the first medal for Team Peru.

Then, Luis Bardalez won the bronze medal in weightlifting after lifting 124 kg and 151 kg. He scored a total of 275 kg. It is worth mentioning that the athlete is in the 61 kg category. It is a challenging discipline, but he did his best and obtained his reward.

On Saturday afternoon, another Peruvian stood on the podium and won the third bronze medal for Peru. It is the shooter Cristian Morales, who achieved third place in the 10-meter air rifle modality, only behind Mexican Edson Ramírez and American Rylan Kissell.

The Government provides incentives to its athletes

According to the Government of Peru, 4 million 970 thousand soles were allocated for athletes who are part of the Road to Santiago 2023 Program to have an extra economic incentive for their preparation and to be able to arrive in the best conditions. In addition, a bonus was confirmed for the medals obtained: 80 thousand soles for gold, 60 thousand for silver, and 30 thousand for bronze.
