This weekend, the Clausura 2023 Tournament of the League 1 returns with matchday 18, highlighting the clash between Universitario and Cusco FC at the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega stadium. However, a threat from the Cusco team has generated uncertainty around the match.
Maxwell Callo, legal advisor of Cusco FC, expressed his discontent with the appointment of referee Diego Haro and the selection criteria of the National Referees Commission (Conar). He even hinted at the possibility that Cusco FC will not participate in the match if their requests are not attended.
Callo's discontent is based on the fact that Haro has officiated matches for both Universitario and Cusco FC in Cusco in the past, which he considers could lead to bias. He requests a referee who has not previously officiated any matches involving either team in that city to ensure fair rotation in the appointments.
COULD THERE BE A WALK OVER
In a meeting between representatives of several clubs, excluding Universitario, summoned by the Peruvian Football Federation to address this situation, Maxwell Callo did not rule out the possibility that Cusco FC will not participate in the match.
"Not ruling out the possibility of not showing up if there is no agreement. The decision is not easy, this circumstance was analyzed in advance. There is concern," he stated.
