Alianza Lima is synonymous with tradition and one of the traditions it maintains over the decades is its devotion to the Lord of Miracles. As is customary every October, in addition to wearing the white and purple uniform, all personnel from the institution go to the Las Nazarenas sanctuary to pay tribute to the 'Purple Christ', as happened this Monday. Undoubtedly, a special moment for everyone in the victorian club, which is fighting hard for the tricampionship in the Liga 1 Betsson.
In the afternoon, the main team and the club's administrator, José Sabogal, arrived at the Las Nazarenas church. Outside, there was a large number of faithful and fans of the victorian club, who greeted each of the players led by Mauricio Larriera. It should be noted that in the debut of the white and purple uniforms, the ‘Íntimos’ rescued three points in their visit to Juliaca: they won 2-1 against Binacional.
In that match, Alianza Lima had as its great figure -as usual- Hernán Barcos, who played the full 90 minutes at 3,800 meters above sea level and, on top of that, scored a brace. With this result, the white and purple team continues in the fight for the Clausura Tournament of the Liga 1 Betsson: they have 33 points and are two points behind Universitario and Melgar, the leaders of the competition. Note that the victorians have already qualified for a direct final and the group stage of the Copa Libertadores.
After that match, Mauricio Larriera had words of praise for the 'Pirata': "It's kind of miraculous (because of the altitude, the age he has and still being a difference maker), but apart from being a great professional, he is a great person. He is giving us the possibility to score, which is something we have been working on due to the lack of goals. Hernán is well known, with a tremendous career, and I don't have much to say"
When will Alianza Lima play again?
After defeating Deportivo Binacional in Juliaca (1-2), Alianza Lima will play again next week when they host ADT for Matchday 18 of the Clausura Tournament of the Liga 1 Betsson. The match is scheduled for Saturday, October 21 at 4:00 p.m., it will be played at the Alejandro Villanueva stadium and will be exclusively broadcasted by Liga 1 MAX.
So far, the 'Íntimos' have already secured their direct qualification to the final after being unreachable in the accumulated standings, therefore they also have a spot in the group stage of the 2023 Copa Libertadores. However, they still have chances to win the Clausura, so the match against ADT will be key. The last time these teams faced each other was in the Apertura, with a victory for ADT by 2-1 with a brace from Víctor Perlaza; Pablo Sabbag scored the temporary 1-1.
